I'm back to school once again. It's crazy how fast my so called "summer vacation" is. Ha! Yeah, seriously, it's only 2 weeks since we're having teacher meetings this week. Yesterday we had meetings all day. It was on 6 Traits of Writing, which I thought was wonderful because I do really suck at that in my classroom. I've never been so great at teaching writing, so I found it helpful to get ideas and such on what to do specifically. Fun stuff. Well, since I had to listen to this from about 8 in the morning until about 4pm, without moving much, which those of you that know, I'm not the best at sitting and just listening, I get very very restless, not to mention my butt falls asleep. Needless to say I got extremely sleepy and starting zoning out by the end. I did have my laptop yesterday to play on, so I was going crazy! I was a lot smarter today, I brought lappie!
This morning we are doing more of that writing stuff. This afternoon, we're going on a "field trip". I'm taking a guess that it's bowling that we're doing. The description was "picking up a spare", and it's requires socks. Those of you that know me know that I do not bowl. Do you like the funny picture I picked. It made me laugh. The last time I went bowling was 7 years ago, a few days before I began my first year of teaching. I was on a blind date with another friend of mine. We went cosmic bowling. On one of my turns, I walked up there, next thing that I know I feel a horrible pain in my knee. Looking down my knee has dislocated. I obviously can't walk with it sticking out to the side. I feel like I'm going to pass out, so I have one option, push it back in place. Yes, I did that! The doctor the next day was shocked that I did that on my own, but I really didn't have another choice from how I saw it. Of course I tore all sorts of thing in my knee, and was on crutches for my first few months of my teaching career. Never been bowling since. I definitely don't associate it with a good experience. I know it wasn't bowling that messed my knee up, but I have no desire to relive such an experience.
Well, now that I've told you my long story, I'm really not thrilled about this little "field trip" today. First of all I have a bazillion things I need to get done here at school in my classroom, and with getting materials and such ready for the new year. I also would love to go to Target or Lakeshore and get supplies that I need. The thought of going to a social, not to mention something I hate doing does not sound like a good use of my time. I'm thinking I will be opting out of this thrilling outing.
